The Butaca Chair was one of Luis Barragan's rare furniture designs. It is a redesign of a Mexican vernacular design, known as "el butaque" or "la butaca".
"La Butaca" is a low slung chair with flowing lines made of wood and wicker. He made many versions of the chair, either with bigger or smaller armrests, covers of different materials, or with varying tilts to the backrest. The Butaca is first documented in photographs of the interior of Barragan's house in Mexico City.
The authentic Vitra Miniature always comes in the little wooden packing box from the Vitra Design Museum Collection. |
