"No.14" marked the beginning of industrial furniture design movement with it?s production in 1859. It was designed as a "chair for mass consumption," and by 1930, more than 50 million had been produced. It is regarded as the typical Viennese coffee-house chair.
Worldwide, "No. 14" is one of the most successful products in the history of industrial mass production. It also established the international reputation of the Thonet brothers, one of the most imminent furniture companies of the early 20th century. The Vienna Caf? chair No. 14 is probably the most successful example of Thonet bentwood furniture. The design is elegant in its sheer simplicity; it is assembled from six pieces of wood held together with screws and nuts, with a caned seat. The result was a sturdy and versatile piece of furniture.
As you expect, this authentic Vitra Miniature always comes in the Vitra Design Museum?s wooden shipping crate with informative booklet. |
