The Ant was the first and one of the best-known of Arne Jacobsen's stacking chairs. The design intent was to create a practical and sturdy chair, but it is interpreted with distinctly Jacobsen charm and wit. The three legged design was a solution to the problem of creating a chair with a firm footing which avoids tangling with the legs. The three legs also express the minimalist construction that characterizes this stacking chair; the first stacking chair of its kind.
The shell of these faithful replicas is constructed of 6 layers of sliced beech veneer and linen, exactly as the original full sized design. The lacquer and even the hardware are scaled as the original.
Each miniature chair is delivered in a specially designed box, with a 16 page color leaflet, summarizing briefly about the architecture and design of Arne Jacobsen. |
